History HUGs 4 KIDS N STEA+M
HUGs 4 KIDS N STEA+M was founded in 2009. As a SLO(San Luis Opbispo) Scientist Advisor, provided science workshops to upper-middle class youth on California’s Central Coast. The San Luis Obispo County 4-H Youth Development organization sponsored the workshops through their SET (science, engineering and technology program. In addition, I presented science workshops to South-Central Los Angeles inner-city underserved at-risk youth. This experience with the two different the social-economic groups uniquely positioned our programs to close the “weakest link” existing in STEA+M (science, technology, engineering, arts + math), for promoting equal education access along with bridging the diversity gap for (HUGs) “Historically Underrepresented Groups (African American, Latino, and Native American). Today we continue to prepare future science, engineering, arts and technology leaders for the 21st century workforce.
